Eat Seasonal: May

I’m so excited to launch this monthly series on eating seasonally. As you know, I’m all about living deliciously, and the best way to do that is to eat fruits and veggies that are in season! They’re more plentiful, they’re tastier, and more sustainable. As much as I’d love to be able to wander my local New Seasons on the daily, it turns out that growing my own garden has proven to be the most affordable, fun, and sustainable option for my family.

We bought a home with mature landscaping: lots of lush greens, bright flowers, and towering trees. While I love having such a feast for the eyes, I’m more of a “feast for the belly” type of gal! Right now I’m blasphemously digging up lots of plants to make room for more edible greens and veggies in my garden beds. Many of the beautiful old greenery isn’t pet-friendly, so that makes me feel just a teeny bit better for getting rid of it.

What I’m planting this month:

Beets

Spinach

Cilantro

Dill

Mint

Marjoram

Broccoli

Kale

Cabbage

Chives

What’s ready for harvest:

Arugula

Asparagus

Chives

Cilantro

Kale

Parsley

Rosemary

Rhubarb

Sage

Spinach

Strawberries

What’s in your garden? Got any tips and tricks for me? I’ll take all the gardening help I can get!

xx
